Post-Doctoral position List of Scholarships in stereopsis and S3D media

The List of Scholarships candidate must have a PhD in a field related to the visual sciences and a background in visual psychophysics. We are seeking someone with a keen interest in stereoscopic vision and 3D media, so experience in this domain will provide an advantage. The List of Scholarships post-doctoral fellow will design, conduct and analyse experiments that will use fundamental psychophysical methodology to evaluate both basic and applied research questions. Thus a background in visual psychophysics is essential. The List of Scholarships successful candidate will focus primarily on perceptual and human factors issues, but s/he will work closely with team members from the Future Cinema Lab in the Faculty of Fine Arts. They will also be encouraged to pursue their own research goals and to interact with the other members of the Centre for Vision Research and the Future Cinema Lab. Thus this position offers a unique collaborative and learning opportunity, in an exciting and rapidly growing field.

The York Centre for Vision Research is an interdisciplinary centre spanning the laboratories of 28 faculty members in the Departments of Psychology, Computer Science, Biology and Kinesiology (see www.cvr.yorku.ca ). Members pursue fundamental and applied research in visual, vestibular and auditory perception, eye-movements, computer vision, virtual reality and robotics. Located within the Faculty of Fine Arts at York University, the Future Cinema Lab (FCL) investigates how new digital storytelling techniques can critically transform a diverse array of state-of-the-art screens (see http://futurecinema.ca).

This a one year position (with the likelihood of extension for another year) which begins September 30th, 2011. Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. (or equivalent) prior to taking up the position. The List of Scholarships salary is consistent with current NSERC standards and will be adjusted according to the candidate’s level of experience.

PhD Researcher in Faculty of Science Iist of Scholarships

You will be part of a team working on the development and application of high-sensitivity NMR methods for the study of protein complexes in a cellular-like environment. You will employ dedicated and internationally unique NMR instruments that will enhance spectroscopic sensitivity by two orders of magnitude. Your studies will target protein machines that regulate elementary aspects of signal transduction and protein folding in a cellular setting.

Using NMR, you will map conformational states of a membrane protein en route to its native folded state or during function in response to changes in the physiochemical environment. These experiments will allow you to obtain a comprehensive map of the conformational landscape of such a biomolecular machine in a native-like environment. Such information is of vital relevance to understand cellular viability and function and offers unprecedented structural insight at the interface of structural and cellular biology.

The successful candidate should have a Master’s or equivalent degree in chemistry, physics, or biology with a general interest in biophysics and spectroscopy. Experience in NMR or a related spectroscopic method is desirable.
